CrimeStoppers
What is CrimeStoppers?CrimeStoppers is a program which involves the public, the media, and the police in a fight against crime. It offers anonymity and cash rewards to persons who furnish information leading to the arrest of offenders, capture of fugitives, illegal drug activity, location of stolen property or other information which solves crimes.Marathon County CrimeStoppers was founded in October 1992 and became one of the more than 45 members of the Wisconsin State CrimeStoppers organization. In 2000, CrimeStoppers expanded their services to include the popular Quick 50 programs in the schools throughout Marathon County. The Quick 50 program is designed to confiscate drugs/weapons/alcohol currently in the schools, and to deter anyone from bringing in that type of contraband in the future. Quick 50 offers a way for students to report, remain anonymous, and become eligible for a cash reward. The emphasis of this program is school safety and creating a safe, relaxed learning environment for all students.
Who administers the program? The CrimeStoppers Board of Directors is comprised of concerned citizens from the Marathon County area who oversee the operation of the program. Their responsibility includes establishing policy, raising funds and controlling the amount of reward payments. Crime information is provided by local Law Enforcement Coordinators.
How does it work?CrimeStoppers uses a non-recorded, non-traced phone line and makes no attempt to identify the caller. When a call is received by CrimeStoppers, it is logged with the date, time and a brief summary of the caller’s information. Callers are furnished with a secret code number which they use when recontacting CrimeStoppers and later when collecting a reward. Arrangements are made for the caller to receive the reward in CASH and preserve their anonymity.Citizens of any age who may have information concerning a crime can call the toll-free CrimeStoppers number at: 1-800-559-4203 |
